Have I told you about
my family’s favorite restaurant?
The place is called Capriccio,
a little tiny neighborhood restaurant.
Last night
we had a little welcome party for my father’s
co-worker and his family who returned to Japan
from Shanghai.
******************************
I hope this place make it through this hard time.
Lots of people are feeling hesitant
about dining out
so restaurants are having difficult time
ever since the earthquake has happened.
I was feeling the same too
(…and I still do in some ways.)
How could I go to a nice restaurant and have fun
when lots of people are still suffering?
That was my initial reaction
during the first 2 weeks or so.
Now, the attitude in Japan is starting to change.
People still care and think about the event
but more and more,
the industry and the society
are encouraging people to dine out
so that the economy
will still be alive
and still be moving.
When the event happened,
I never imagined that the influence would stretch out so much
as to affect out little neighborhood restaurant.
(Of course the party has to end with a cake…!)
Anyways,
family, friends, good food and good wine
(yes, we opened a lot of bottles…)
we had a lovely time together!

If you come visit me,
and if you are taken to this place,
you know that I love you. Hehe.
Have I ever told you?
I used to be bagelholic.
I used to keep a thing called
bagel journal in which
I would rate and write comments on
the bagel I had each day.
I say each day
because I used to eat a bagel
every day.
Always.
Without missing even a day.
….Well, that is a lie
but I sure did have a lot of bagel
from the age 19-21ish.
I even ordered bagels from NY
when I lived in Seattle.
…and I got so angry at Fedex because they
messed up the delivery and my bagels got
kept in a storage and by the time I got them
they were kind of stale.
I even had bagel dolls
which I got through ebay.
(I was the only bidder…..hooray….)
It was a bagel with a face and limbs.
Back then,
they seemed so adorable
I thought I was going to love them forever
but something happened
and they just started to look silly and icky.
I think I sold them at a garage sale.
So, enough about the history of my bagelholicness.
Now?
I still enjoy having bagels.
I prefer bagels over donuts
but…
I wouldn’t rate
how chewy the bagel was
using five stars
or
I wouldn’t collect
a smiling bagel with arms and legs.
Anyways,
I did go to a few bagel stores in NY
and I wish I got to go to other ones too!
(Next time, I will.)
Anyways anyways…..
I really liked
Bagel Smith so if you are in Williamsburg area
and if you want to grab something quick and yummy,
try it!!

If you are in the area,
I think it’ll be a nice place to go.
I couldn’t finish the post yesterday
but it was supposed to be posted on Sunday.
Ooops.

Finally the snow has started to melt
and we could almost walk everywhere
without being trapped in puddles.
My leather boots are not happy with all the water
and salt on the street and I’ve been polishing them
everyday once they are dried.
Oh well…I guess they add some characteristics.

Today I got up and walked to Green Point
which is like 20 min. walk from where I am staying
in Williamsburg.
I met up with Matthew and we went to
Peter Pan Bakery to have some doughnuts and coffee.
Yum yum.
They have very yummy doughnuts.
I am kind of glad that I don’t live near
Whole Foods, doughnuts or a bagel shop.
It would be so dangerous.
In the night, I went to Pinkerton wine bar
to hear Matt
(…I hope you don’t mind me linking it to your site!)
play jazz.
Good music, good people, and some wine.
Life is good.
He will be playing there every Sunday night from now on.
If you are in the area, you should stop by
and have a glass of wine.
Little cozy bar with nice atmosphere,
I wish I could go there every Sunday night
but alas, I have to leave for Port Washington on Sunday nights.
Today I will go to East Village again
to pick up my photo.
Getting kind of hungry, but first…
shower time.
